Leukocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin
Leukocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) is a natural blood concentrate that is made from a patient’s own blood. L-PRF is used to speed recovery, reduce pain/swelling, and enhance tissue regeneration after oral surgery procedures. Since L-PRF contains a high concentration of platelets and leukocytes, growth factors are released for up to 14 days after placement improving results and significantly reducing the healing process.
During preparation, Dr. Melendrez draws a small amount of the patient’s blood, places it in vials and then spun down in a centrifuge to separate the platelets, growth factors, leukocytes and proteins into a membrane. The membrane is placed directly into the surgical site, where it helps with accelerating the healing of bone and soft tissue such as gingiva. Incorporating L-PRF into our treatment protocols supports the body’s natural healing abilities, leading to faster recovery, vigorous bone regeneration, and more predictable outcomes.
L-PRF is an optional procedure and is not automatically included in every treatment. If it’s recommended for your procedure, we’ll review the cost with you and explain how it aligns with your overall treatment plan.
